Atrium Art Opening Reception for Alexa Carson's 'Cycle'
Zeitgeist Atrium
Join us for the opening of 'Cycle', the new exhibition from artist Alexa Carson!
About 'Cycle':
Blood needn’t be disturbing.
Female hormones are not shameful.
It is safe to experience and talk about biological processes.
The menstrual cycle can be sacred and empowering.
These are some of the simple yet radical ideas presented in the show Cycle, by Alexa Carson, through use of archetypes, symbolism, and raw realism.
As our culture slowly steps onto the path of trusting women and their bodies (and bodies, in general), one outlier remains: the menstrual cycle. Most people do not understand the menstrual cycle (which is the entire ~ month long journey), and most do not wish to. We suffer the effects of a long history of dogma that has used bleeding as supposed “objective” evidence of the inferiority of women. This, and the linear, masculine-dominated culture have made the natural cycle of women both difficult and shamed.
This collection of paintings invites viewers into a new paradigm- one that sheds the stigma of the entire menstrual cycle and all it contains and implies. It honors the powerful, cyclical nature of the female body. It embraces biological processes as important, as sacred, and as an embodiment of humanity’s irrevocable interconnection with Nature
