Causes / Fundraisers

The balance between 2nd Amendment rights and calls for gun safety is an issue of great importance to many community members, but often we do not have spaces to share our opinions freely and find areas of commonality.
Join your Northern MN + WI Braver Angels Alliance for our first Facilitated Discussion: Gun Regulations. This discussion will be facilitated by Braver Angels moderator, Tim Gustafson.

HOW A FACILITATED DISCUSSION WORKS:
Topic resolution language is presented – for June 9th our resolution is this:
Resolved: Currently proposed gun regulations go too far in restricting 2nd Amendment rights.
Braver Angels discussion participants will have the opportunity to speak for or against the resolution. Speeches will be requested from the audience, followed by comments made to the facilitator. Participants may speak for or against the resolution. This is a space dedicated to speaking your mind safely and freely in the Braver Angels effort to truly and calmly learn how Red and Blue American’s are feeling on an issue and why.
This topic was selected as the 2024 Minnesota Legislative Session considered these regulations for gun owners in Minnesota. So the discussion will revolve around opinions on if these regulations go too far or not far enough?
Firearm Storage: A gun must be unloaded and equipped with a locking device or stored in a firearm storage unit.
Binary Trigger Ban: This would ban devices that allow a semiautomatic gun to fire more than one shot with a single pull and release trigger.
Increased Penalty for Straw Purchases: When an individual buys a firearm for someone ineligible to purchase or possess it the penalty would be increased from gross misdemeanor to a felony.

And as always the discussion will follow the THE BRAVER ANGELS WAY:
We state our views freely and fully, without fear.
We treat people who disagree with us with honesty, dignity, and respect.
We welcome opportunities to engage those with whom we disagree.
We believe all of us have blind spots and none of us are not worth talking to.
We seek to disagree accurately, avoiding exaggeration and stereotypes.
We look for common ground where it exists and, if possible, find ways to work together.
