Fundamentals of Drawing and Painting for Youth (ages 10-18)

Kid's Corner
Date: Thursday, May 19 06:00 PM - 08:00 PM

Venue: Great Lakes Academy of Fine Art

Does you child love to draw? Do they spend hours with a pencil and paper? If so, this class is developed to help them grow and develop their drawing and painting skills.

Designed for youth ages 10-18, our Drawing and Painting Fundamentals Class begins with drawing exercises in black and white using pencil and pen and ink. After basic skills are learned, students advance to watercolor.

All of our students advance at their own pace. Each class builds on the next, laying a strong foundation of drawing skills, color mixing, and painting techniques. As drawing is the foundation of artistic practice, emphasis is placed on teaching the fundamentals of drawing logically and simply. Students become familiar with the expressive quality of line and improve their eye/hand coordination and focus.

After students have demonstrated a basic understanding of drawing, they begin painting in watercolor. While we emphasize line in drawing, painting is a medium devoted to mass and color. Watercolor is a great medium to learn these concepts and develop their skills quickly.

We are offering three sessions this spring term. Choose from Thursday evenings from 6-8 pm or Saturdays from 10-12 or 1-3pm. Each session runs for 8 weeks. See our website for the full schedule and samples of student work. Class is held at the Great Lakes Academy of Fine Art, located at 810 West 3rd Street, Duluth, MN. Class size is limited.

No classes held April 14 & 16 or May 5 & 7.
